1st week of pregnancyBaby’s development Although your baby has not been conceived yet, this week is counted as the first week of your 40 week pregnancy. Your expected delivery date (EDD) is counted from this week. Motherly changes Your menstruation period has just started and may be you are planning for a conception. But before conception you need to build up some good habits as the health of your baby to be depends on your healthy habits. • You should avoid drinking alcohol, taking tobacco or any drugs. These substances are dangerous for your baby to be and can cause serious birth defects. • If you are taking any prescription and/ or OTC products, consult your doctor for the potential benefits or side effects on the fetus. • You can start taking some prenatal vitamins or supplements including folic acid. You can also take enough of orange juice for the required folic acid. Your diet must include plenty of vegetables and fruits. Also a regular exercise routine will give a healthy start for your baby to be. At the end of the first week you have overcome your menstrual period and your uterus starts building up a new lining. The lining thickens gradually in the following weeks to prepare itself for holding the egg after fertilization. |
